Did you know the mushroom capital of the world is just a short drive away in Kennett Square, PA? Producing over a million pounds of mushrooms a week, this region is busy! To celebrate their famous vegetable, the town holds an annual mushroom festival the first weekend after labor day. This famous festival has been going on for 28 years and will be September 7th and 8th in downtown Kennett. Mushroom enthusiasts from all over look forward to this unique festival all year.

Kennett Square Mushroom Festival Mascot

Do not fear if you are not a mushroom fan, there is plenty of other food and fun activities to participate in. A run/walk, silent auction, live music, antique classic car show, parade and mushroom eating championship engage those of all ages. Even celebrities come into town to join in the fun. Returning again this year, Cara Hall, co-host of The Chew and former Top Chef contestant, returns to Kennett Square to share a mushroom recipe and chat about her experiences in general. Two demonstrations are scheduled at noon and 3 pm on Sunday, September 8th.

Sam Harris, owner of a fine gardening and event design company, will be hosting a class on utilizing mushroom compost when gardening Saturday at 1pm. Fun Gus, the official Mushroom Festival Mascot will be on-site throughout the event for photos and a hug.

This year’s festival is sure to be a great one!
