The Irish Club of Delaware will host its 43rd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade this Saturday, March 10th, in Downtown Wilmington. The parade starts at 12pm at 4th & King St and proceeds up King St to 14th St. The Grandstand will be located at Rodney Square, where you’ll be able to see special performances by the different groups marching in the parade. The parade always draws a large crowd of residents and visitors alike to the city. Please be aware that several road closures and parking restrictions will affect the flow of traffic in the area.
Fuel up for the day’s festivities at the Hotel du Pont’s Luck O’ The Green Room breakfast. Enjoy traditional Irish food and drinks accompanied by a performance from the championship dancers at the Broesler School of Irish Dance. For reservations call 302.594.3154.
And keep the party going after the parade at the Post-Parade Hooley near 14th St at the end of the parade route. The cost for the Hooley entertainment is free. If you wish to buy a commemorative mug for $20, it will be filled with complimentary beer until it runs out. The Hooley will continue until 4 PM.
The celebration continues Saturday evening with the 28th annual St. Paddy’s Day loop hosted by Out & About magazine. There is no official starting point, so select the nightspot you’d like to visit first, pay the $10 cover, and you will receive a wristband that grants admission to all other Loop venues without paying another cover. Venues include Chelsea Tavern, Ernest & Scott Taproom, The Queen, Firestone Roasting House, Timothy’s Riverfront Grill, and more.
Whether you’re Irish or simply Irish for the day, you won’t want to miss Wilmington’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities this weekend!
