Named one of the Top 10 criterium bike races in the country by USA Cycling, the Wilmington Grand Prix will celebrate its 12th anniversary this weekend in Downtown Wilmington!
The Wilmington Grand Prix is an international cycling event featuring four different bike races over the course of the weekend. The action starts Friday night (May 18) with the Monkey Hill Time Trial, a 3.2-mile race against the clock through Wilmington’s Brandywine Park. Saturday (May 19) will begin with two amateur races on Market St and culminate with the Women’s Pro and Men’s Pro races in the afternoon. Sunday (May 20) will see the return of the Eighth Annual Governor’s Ride and the Seventh Annual Delaware Gran Fondo, offering a scenic tour through the Brandywine Valley and some of Delaware’s most-prized cultural attractions.
You do not have to be a cycling fan to enjoy the excitement of the Wilmington Grand Prix! From May 18-20, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of free family-friendly activities in addition to the bike races, including a six-block street festival on Market Street on Saturday. Have lunch and watch the races from a table right on the course, or stroll down Market Street to check out one of the many attractions like the rock wall or obstacle course.
