Season’s greetings, Live, Work, Players. The gift of giving is alive and well in your city and other nearby locations. If you weren’t able to participate in our food drive with the Food Bank of Delaware or gift drive for H.A.R.P. of Wilmington, never fear – there’s still time to spread seasonal joy by making charitable contributions. We have provided a post where you can locate the local organization you feel best deserves your time, money and/or attention.
Be it a drive for canned goods, a soup kitchen in need of volunteers or a house that’s still waiting to be built by a few helping hands, getting down for a good cause is a surefire way to boost your seasonal spirit. Here’s what’s on the calendar for this Christmas and beyond.

Hunger
An estimated 49.1 million Americans are facing food shortages on the home front. Many of America’s hungry go to work every day but what they bring home isn’t quite enough to live comfortably. You can play a significant role in feeding local households by volunteering at or donating to any of the following local organizations:
- Wilmington, De’s Sunday Breakfast Mission
- St. Patrick’s Center (responsible for meals on wheels and other services for the elderly, the homeless and anyone in need)
- The Food Bank of Delaware (tackling statewide hunger)
Health
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware is made possible thanks to the efforts of over 400 behind the scenes volunteers. 40 hours per year of your time could help to make this house a warmer home for Delaware children battling life threatening illnesses.
Housing
If you’re the hands-on type when it comes to volunteering, you might find Habitat for Humanity an extremely rewarding way to spend your day or year, depending on how involved you decide to become. There are so many upsides to supporting this organization. Not only do you help those in need of shelter, you also return home with a very useful skill.
Gift Giving
Thanks to local organizations like Kind to Kids and Adopt-A-Family, toy drives and gift assistance are available in the Diamond State. Community based organization the Ministry of Caring is in need of short term and long term volunteers as well as permanent staff members to aid them in their mission to combat poverty with compassion.
