Free Music Fills the Air in Philadelphia

 

Summer concert season is almost over, but not quite closed. If you have yet to head over to your neighboring city of Philadelphia and engage in a blissful night of music and motion beneath a blanket of city sky, you’re in luck. There are still a few free symphonies headed your way. So before you pack up your oversized blanket and lawn chair for the winter, you might wish to peruse this list and possibly pack up the car for one last shebang. Here’s a look at the end of summer free Philly concert countdown. Each of these captivating musical sets is scheduled to kick off in a Philly location that’s just a short drive from your home at The Residences.

 

The 40th Street Summer Series

 

40th and Walnut in nearby University City has space on the lawn for you and yours. Their free concerts feature a family friendly earful of orchestra and percussion along with a side of complimentary ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s. Attendees can sprawl along the lawn or stroll through the myriad of festival oriented attractions which include face painting and street juggling. The finally showings are scheduled for August 30th and September 27th, leaving you a bit of time to rearrange your calendar and plan accordingly. Bonus— The free concerts are positioned just behind the free library putting free music, cuisine and education at your fingertips in the same locale.

Group Love at The Summer Block Party

 

Philadelphia’s ultimate summer block party still has one more act to go. On Saturday, September 13th, popular rockers Grouplove will take the stage before the summer curtain officially closes. Not only is this 104.5 hosted event free; it also features up and coming local DJ’s who will be mixing up a good time as the fall breezes sway over the city. Attendees are urged to head over to the Festival Pier promptly since doors to the party open at 3 pm. Tickets are required but you can obtain them on the go via your mobile device.

 

Mexican Independence at Penn’s Landing

 

Local Mexican bands will jam out at this free fest which is part of Peco’s Multicultural Music event list. In addition to traditional Mexican music and dancing, a smorgasbord of Mexican cuisine will make this concert complete. Beginning on Sunday, September 14th at 1 pm, this totally free celebration of Mexican Independence will run for seven hours, providing entertainment for Live, Work, Play residents of all ages.
