Are you looking to give back to the community? JFS of Delaware is seeking volunteers to support two of their programs, RISE and Brandywine Village Network. JFS volunteer activities are individually assigned based on a volunteer’s unique skills, interests, and availability.

RISE

RISE, which stands for Refugee Integration Support Effort, helps refugees settle and transition to life in Delaware. When refugees seek a home in Delaware, JFS helps them raise their families in freedom and safety. The volunteer component of RISE offers many different ways to help. There is direct (face-to-face contact) and indirect (behind the scenes) types of involvement, including being a volunteer driver, an English as a second language tutor, an advocate, or a community educator. With your help, you can continue to assist newcomers to America. If this program is of interest to you, you can submit an application here.

Brandywine Village Network

Brandywine Village Network (BVN) is an “aging-in-place” initiative that helps adults 50+ live independently in their own homes in northeastern New Castle County. BVN provides a neighborhood of support for older adults who live just where they want – at home. Through a variety of professional and volunteer services, BVN makes it possible for older adults to plan well, live well, and age well. Volunteers can assist members of BVN with a wide variety of needs, including making daily/weekly friendly phone calls, providing transportation to appointments, assisting with grocery shopping, light cleaning, or yardwork, helping with bill-paying or use of electronics, providing companionship, helping prepare meals or baked goods, and leading classes and workshops. Volunteers have access to an online scheduling system, making the process of finding and signing up for volunteer activities as simple as a click of a button. If you are interested in creating a caring, friendly community of support for older adults in Brandywine Village Network, you can find the application here. You can submit completed applications by email to bvn@jfsdelaware.org or at the JFS Wilmington office (99 Passmore Road, Wilmington, DE 19803).

All volunteers must pass a criminal background check prior to assisting members. Volunteers must also provide their own transportation to and from volunteer activities.
