Wilmington is a city rooted in diversity, with a passion for the fine tuned art of drama and Opera Delaware is one of the many local venues designed to promote a brighter, theatre-driven future. Opera Delaware is the 14th oldest opera house in the nation. The building has been hosting live operatic efforts since 1945 and the funding for these live shows has been consistently widespread. Over a series of decades, Opera Delaware has been showered with a wide variety of awards including the coveted Opera America award. Your home in the Live, Work, Play community is conveniently located within walking distance of their award-winning stage, and here are the highlights of events to come.

Opera Delaware has a special event planned for this weekend – a Block Party/Rummage Sale. On Saturday, June 7, locals can hop over to the Opera Delaware studios on South Poplar Street for food trucks, face painting and other activities for kids, plus a rummage sale and performances by Jessica Graae, Imagination Players, Opera Delaware, an improv troupe, and more! More info can be found on Facebook as well as the Opera Delaware website.

Over the past few years, Opera Delaware has received acknowledgements for their portrayal of classic operatic pieces such as Macbeth and The Barber of Seville. The opera house is also responsible for the employment of more than 250 locals. They promise that this year’s upcoming season entitled Wine, Women and Song will feature a little bit of something for everyone who attends.

In 1945, a non-profit organization set out to build a venue for theatre lovers that would excite, inform, and inspire. Many decades later, they are still carrying out that mission. For Opera Delaware ticket information, contact us at Live, Work, Play.
