The Wilmington Grand Prix is just around the corner!  If you want to participate in the main event, join the leisurely fifteen-mile ride with Governor Markell and other celebrities, or simply kick off the summer with all of the downtown festivities; May 17th through 19th is going to be one amazing weekend!

Wilmington Grand Prix

The activities will begin on Friday with the Monkey Hill time trial, but the real fun starts Saturday morning.  Governor Markell will be taking off from the Delaware Art Museum  and continue through Brandywine Valley’s most scenic and cultural attractions.  The ride will finish at the Museum in the sculpture garden.  Men’s and Women’s time trial races will be held throughout the day, and youth races will begin at noon.  The time trials will be held on a figure-eight-style course that will start and finish about a block away from our Residences at Rodney Square!

Meanwhile, the Parade to Fight Hunger down Market Street will commence in the early afternoon, among plenty of other attractions.  Sidewalk sales and the various retail establishments will provide shopaholics with plenty of options, and the multiple restaurants and outdoor cafes will satisfy anyone’s craving.   Bungee jumping, BMX stunt shows, and a rock wall will provide adventurous non-cyclists with plenty of entertainment, and the Moon Bounce and carnival games will ensure that people of all ages enjoy their weekend.  The evening will see various live music acts performing at the Grand Prix’ partner nightspots.

Sunday will be the big day for the racers, as the Gran Fondo, 100-kilometer race will kick off first thing in the morning.  Whether you have been pumping your pedals training for the race, have an inkling to check out the fun and entertainment, or if you want to enjoy some of the best food and attractions that Wilmington has to offer, the Wilmington Grand Prix from May 17th to 19th will have it all!
